Mohawk
The last two weekends have been tough. The weather has been too rough to run. The weather finally broke on the 10th for a quick trip to the Mohawk.  We loaded the boat, and held our collective breaths as we peered out the inlet. There were rollers at the mouth, but calmer water a little further out. We spooled up the cats, as the bow shouldered the large rollers. We plowed over them fighting our way to calmer water. Once past the head buoy, all was well.

A short 7 mile ride brought us to the site. Our crew immediately got to work securing us to the wreck. Terry, & Andrew set, while CAPTAIN Bill worked the deck. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that Bill Aberle, is now a licensed Captain, with a Masters ticket. We welcome him into the wheel house. Bill was formerly of the “SILENT” service, and served 6 years submarine duty in the U.S. Navy., aboard one of the first nuclear powered submarines. I don’t know what subs have to do with dive boats, but who am I to judge.  We will be seeing a lot of bill in the season to come.

With the boat anchored up, and the ocean open, divers began to hit the water. On the bottom, they were greeted by 47 Deg. Temperatures and about 15 ft. of vis. Terry managed to work his mojo and shoot some nice sea bass. A few short lobsters got a ride to the surface, and were promptly thrown back, with one keeper to be had.  A hot lunch was served, thanks to my wife Susan.  After getting dry & warm, a few divers opted to not return to the water, a handful of hardy souls did.  But the bottom times were shorter !! Captain Bill went into pull, setting us free from the bottom.

I spooled up the cats, and headed north back to the inlet. The rollers of the morning were gone, allowing us to breeze right in under the capable hands of Captain Bill. As we passed Ralph’s warf-side bar & grill, a party was just getting started. Another sign that the Jersey shore was ramping up for a great summer.
