Trip Report 4-17-05
With the season opener under or collective belts, we were glad to see that the wind from yesterday had died down. This, along with the 10am departure time made it feel like the Sunday it was. The seas were much calmer, with very little heave left from Saturday. With the change in weather and a few good friends on board, we decided to push 23 miles to a barge (barge #3) in about 110 ft of water. The calm sea conditions made for a great ride out, the twin cats made it short.
Our mate Shawn made short work of tying us into the barge, he reported great vis to the 90 ft level, below that it was a murky 5 ft. One by one the divers jumped over to try their hand at catching dinner. About 40 minutes , the divers came up empty handed. Lobsters 1 Divers 0. In spite of the loss the divers had a great time. They relaxed with hot soup and coffee while the John Jack chugged over to several sets of “Unknown” numbers. After about an hour of searching we located not one but two new dive sites in about 100 ft of water. To these we will soon return. The John Jack turned its bow towards home and headed for the dock. All the while the day continued to get nicer and nicer. It was a great way to end the opening weekend.
